Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of October 25 - 31
TBS and Tyler Perry outscore the return of basketball on ESPN and TNT

(November 4, 2010) It looks like black households have locked in on their cable favorites for the season, and the line-up is much like the previous fall. TBS still has its grip on the audience with Tyler Perry's hit comedies. And sports is giving ESPN its usual seasonal boost with African-American basketball fans, but so far not enough to topple TBS.

TBS dropped black viewers with the end of baseball, but still claimed 7.2 million for its five shows on the Top 25 cable chart. ESPN totaled 6.4 million who watched four of its sports programs. USA took third with 3.1 million watching four shows.

The total number of viewers watching the Top 25 cable shows, according to Nielsen, was 28.9 million, or 14 percent more than the previous week.

The finding comes from the soon to be issued 16th annual edition of "The Buying Power of Black America" report.

In 2009, black households spent an estimated $507 billion in 27 product and services categories. That's an increase of 16.6% over the $435 billion spent in 2008. African-Americans' total earned income for 2009 is estimated at $836 billion...
