Jeremy Levitt, 'The Blue-Collar Scholar,' debuts as WVON morning host

(October 20, 2008) Dr. Jeremy I. Levitt, associate dean for International Programs and Distinguished Professor of International Law at Florida A&M University College of Law has been named the new morning host for Chicago's black talk station, WVON.  Mornings with Jeremy Levitt airs Monday through Friday from 6am-9am, replacing The Roland S. Martin Show.

Levitt, known as the "Blue-Collar Scholar," is a public international lawyer, political scientist and Africanist. He earned his B.A. at Arizona State University, his J.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Ph.D. in International Studies at the University of Cambridge, St. John's College, where he served as Managing Editor of the Cambridge Review of International Affairs.

Dr. Levitt has traveled, researched or worked in 27 African countries.  He authored The Evolution of Deadly Conflict in Liberia: From 'Paternaltarianism' to State Collapse, which has been highly praised as "original" and the "definitive work on the causes of Liberia's cycle of deadly conflict," and is currently working on a ground-breaking study, Illegal Peace? Examining the Legality of Power-Sharing with African Warlords and Rebels.

A frequent source for national and international media, Dr. Levitt has served as a consultant or technical expert to various institutions, including the World Bank Group, Directorate-Operational Policy and Country Systems; World Bank Institute; International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty; and the United Nations Commission for Refugees.

"Dr. Jeremy Levitt is a new young dynamo that will enhance the station with his charismatic energy, intelligence and conversation that we have come to expect from the morning shows on WVON," stated LaMont Watts, program director.

Passionate about legal and multi-disciplinary scholarship and strongly committed to public service, Dr. Jeremy Levitt is one of the country's rising young scholars, activists and public intellectuals, traveling around the world to represent clients and lecture on the most pressing and controversial issues confronting the global society.
