The Week
of Sept. 25 – Oct. 1
ABC’s 'Grey’s
Anatomy' rises a notch to take No. 1, CBS is week’s network winner
(October
3, 2006) ABC inverted its two winning shows of the previous week to have
“Grey’s Anatomy” claim No. 1 and “Dancing With The Stars” in second place.
On the top 25 most popular shows in black households, newcomer “Ugly
Betty” had a good showing, finishing in fourth position. NBC’s Sunday
Night Football had to settle for fifth place for matchup of the Chicago
Bears vs. the Seattle Seahawks.
The CW network premiered its Sunday night black block, with three of the
five shows making the chart. “America’s Next Top Model” led the pack in
twelfth place. The winning network title goes to CBS, which again posted
eight programs on the chart. ABC and NBC each had six, and Fox had two.
The total number of households watching the Top 25 during the last week of
September was 33.2 million, just slightly above the 32.7 million of the
previous week.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
