Radio One names Bruce
Demps regional manager for Atlanta market
(September 28, 2006) Radio One has named Bruce Demps as regional manager
of its Atlanta (WHTA-FM, WJZZ-FM, WPZE-FM, WAMJ-FM), Augusta (WTHB-AM,
WAKB-FM, WAEG-FM, WTHB-FM, WFXA-FM,) and Miami (WTPS-AM) markets. He will
be based in Atlanta and will report to Radio One’s Chief Executive Officer
and President, Alfred Liggins.
Commenting on the hiring, Liggins stated, “I have been aware of him for
years and have been extremely impressed with his credentials. Now we get
to work with him! He has the experience we need on all fronts. We are all
thrilled that he is part of the Radio One family.”
Demps commented, “I consider it an honor to be asked by Radio One to join
the company as it responds to the new challenges and opportunities that
all media companies face. Together, with the talented people at the
corporate and market level, we will find a way to grow our business by
engaging our audience wherever we find them and then providing a viable
efficient mechanism for advertisers to reach them.”
Demps spent the last ten years with Clear Channel. A native Floridian, he
graduated from the University of Florida College of Journalism and
Communications where he was the recipient of a post Newsweek station
scholarship. He started his broadcast sales career at WIVY in Jacksonville
in 1981 and worked his way to the position of vice president and general
manager of the WSOL/WJBT/WZAZ cluster.
He then relocated to Memphis in November 1995 where served as vice
president and general manager of WDIA and WHRK, which was acquired by
Clear Channel in May 1996. Demps served as market manager of Clear
Channel's Memphis cluster as it grew to seven stations over a three-year
period.

'Buying Power' report shows black consumers spending more on home life
As the American economy continues to move sluggishly,
African-American households are curtailing their spending in many
categories, including food, clothing and basic household items, while
investing more in home repair, home entertainment and consumer
electronics. Although they are trimming back, black consumers are still
spending more than their white counterparts on most of these products.
