Black TV Ratings for Week of September 21 - 27 LL Cool J,
'Good Wife' make black viewers return to CBS as favorite network
(September 29, 2009) It looks like the love affair between NBC and black
TV watchers was a momentary fling. The winning combination of football
and Jay Leno is over, with black households saying "been there, done
that" as any of five of the comedian's nightly show failing to make the
Top 25. NBC still has a No.1 black show with "Sunday Night Football"
[The NFL match-up between the Colts and Cardinals was No.4 in white
households].
It could be a troublesome sign for NBC's season if it lacks more prime
time shows capable of attracting black audiences.
CBS bounced back to supremacy with black households thanks to LL Cool
J's starring role in "NCIS: Los Angeles," which debuted at No.3.
African-Americans also latched on to "The Good Wife," the critically
acclaimed new hit drama which has no blacks in starring roles. CBS was
the week's most watched network in black households with 15.4 million
black viewers for nine shows on the Top 25. Fox followed with 11.8
million viewers for seven shows. ABC was third with 8.1 million tuning
into six programs.
The total number of viewers watching the week's Top 25 most popular
shows in black households was 41 million according to Nielsen. That
represents a big increase of 21.6 percent increase over the previous
week.
