EbonyJet Radio
starts streaming live in October with "Global Soul" format
(September 25, 2008) EbonyJet.com has announced it is launching EbonyJet
Radio, a new 24-hour online streaming radio station. Scheduled to go
live Oct. 1, the station will offer users the latest in rare grooves and
independent music rarely heard on terrestrial and satellite radio.
The station calls this format "Global Soul," defined as a concept
without genre boundaries that will explore what¹s new and what's next in
indie soul, rock, hip-hop, old school, jazz and world music.
Johnson Publishing Co., which owns Ebony and Jet magazines, is no
stranger to radio broadcasting. At one time it owned two radio stations,
including WLNR in Chicago. That station was the first in the market to
play what is now identified as a smooth jazz format.
"Music is shaping culture around the globe and much of it has its roots
and its rhythms grounded in classic Black soul music. Radio should be
about discovery and EbonyJet Radio is an extension of our efforts to
showcase the diversity and excitement of Black artistic
expressionwherever it's happening," said Eric Easter, EbonyJet.com¹s
chief of digital strategy.
EbonyJet Radio will be programmed by Chicago music producer Charles
White. White is also producer of the popular EbonyJet.com podcast, The
Turntable, a regular roundtable of music experts on new developments in
Black music. The station will also feature audio content from news and
cultural stories featured on EbonyJet.com.
Music lovers will be able to access EbonyJet Radio on their computers by
logging on to www.ebonyjet.com/radio. The station is compatible with
iTunes, Windows Media Player or Real Music Player and a variety of Wi-Fi
Internet radios, such as Phoenix, Acoustic Energy and Blik.
