Black TV
Ratings for Week of September 7 - 13 NBC, NFL
team up to dominate the week's Top 25 as new TV season begins
(September
15, 2009) NBC's football telecasts have always been perennial favorites
with black households, and have usually come in as the week's No.1 show
during the regular season. The second week of September was a real gift
to the peacock network thanks to six prime time football-related
programs that delivered 12 million black viewers.
In addition to NBC's regular Sunday night NFL broadcast featuring the
Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers, the network had a Thursday night
match-up with Tennessee and Pittsburgh that grabbed the No.1 spot. That
lead the way to a rout by NBC, which was the most watched network again
with 19 million viewers for 12 shows. CBS claimed 7.5 million black
viewers for seven shows and Fox notched 6.7 million viewers for five
programs.
The total number of black viewers watching the Top 25 shows, according
to Nielsen, was 34.3 million -- a whopping 46 percent increase over the
previous week.
