Cable TV Ratings for Week of September 1 - 7
MTV Awards beats 'Payne' in households count and gives network top net title

(September 12, 2008) During the first week of September, the MTV Music Video Awards special edged out perennial No. 1 cable show, "House of Payne," more black households to take the top spot. "Payne" took the second through fourth positions.

When MTV coupled four other chart-making shows with the awards special, it pulled in 5.2 million black viewers and earned the title of most watched cable network for the week. It was followed by TNT with 3.1 million and ESPN's 2.04 million.

The total number of viewers for the top 25, according to Nielsen, dropped three percent from the last week in August to 24.3 million.
