Black TV Ratings for Week of September 6 - 12
The season debut of NFL football frenzy dominates Top 25 viewing

(September 14, 2010) Summer is over and that means football season has officially begun. The opening week of the National Football League created more than the usual fanfare, and the armchair faithful showed up in huge TV audiences numbers. The opening games dominated viewing in black households, with an increase of more than one million black viewers over last year’s debut of Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night Football.

Football also meant that it was no contest for the battle of the week’s most watched network. NBC had 19.5 million viewers for its eight shows on the Top 25, all but two which were NFL-related. CBS was in a rare second place with seven million black viewers for eight shows. Fox took third place with 6.8 million watching five shows.

Nielsen recorded the total number of viewers for the Top 25 at 37.5 million, a whopping 84 percent increase over the previous week.
