Essence Communications names Joy Collins general manager

(September 4, 200) Joy A. Collins has been named General Manager for Essence Communications Inc., it was announced recently by Essence Communications Inc. President, Michelle Ebanks, to whom she will report. Collins will be the key executive with responsibilities over the group’s financial, planning, production and administrative functions.

“We are proud to have Joy’s expertise and level of talent in this role as general manager,” says Michelle Ebanks, President, Essence Communications Inc. “I’m looking forward to working with her in determining and driving the company’s financial strategies and having her play a key role in setting Essence’s strategic direction in concert with the rest of the executive team.”

Collins had been the Vice President, Business Development for NBC Universal, where she worked closely with NBCU’s President Council to identify strategic growth opportunities for operating divisions and lead the deal execution process for business development. Representative deals include NBC’s $2.7 billion dollar acquisition of Telemundo Communications, the fastest-growing Spanish network and the multi-million dollar acquisition of Oxygen Media, the leading women’s entertainment network. In addition, she led the organic and acquisitive growth strategy for NBC Universal’s entry into the $17 billion children’s content business and sought to secure distribution, programming and partnering relationships for NBC Universal in this market. 

Prior to that, Collins was an Associate at J.P. Morgan & Company where she executed and analyzed deals involving merger, acquisition, divestiture, advisory, equity and debt raising activities for clients within the media and new media industries. Collins played a pivotal role in Havas Advertising’s acquisition of Snyder Communications and equity offering deals that included the Initial Public Offering of Fox Entertainment Group, Inc. and The Edison Schools.  

Collins received her MBA from Harvard Business School in June 2004. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California. She resides in Jersey City, New Jersey.
