Black TV Ratings for Week of August 24 - 30 Football
sweeps first, second, third spots; CBS's dominance gets even bigger
(September 1, 2009) Vacation's over, and the jockeying begins for black
viewers' loyalty for the upcoming fall season. Football continues to be
a crowd pleaser in black households -- even in pre-season -- and NBC,
CBS and Fox all shared in the rewards. NBC's airing of the Chicago
Bears and Denver broncos match-up attracted 1.6 million black viewers to
be the week's top show. [The No.1 show in whites households was
"America's Got Talent," while the game finished third] Black viewers
were 15.6 percent of the total audience for the NBC game.
CBS's hold over the black prime time broadcast TV audience got even
bigger during the last week of August. The network notched 13.8 million
viewers for its 15 shows on the Top 25 [Three of CBS's top shows aired
on Wednesday, effectively going up against cable's juggernaut, Tyler
Perry's "Meet the Browns" and "House of Payne"]. NBC had 5.9 million for
six shows, and Fox claimed a total of four million viewers for four
programs.
The total number of viewers watching the Top 25 most popular shows in
black households, as cited by Nielsen, was 23.1 million -- a 7.7 percent
increase over the previous week.
