Urban radio's leading personalities come together for MLK Memorial radiothon

(August 22, 2008) In celebration of the 45th anniversary of the March on Washington and the "I Have a Dream" speech, Clear Channel Radio and the Washington, DC Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation, Inc., today announced the additions of renowned radio personalities, Steve Harvey, Doug Banks, Tom Joyner, and Michael Baisden to an all-star ensemble of celebrities for the Clear Channel "Build the Dream" Radiothon on Thursday, August 28th. The Memorial Foundation also recently unveiled the commencement of the Verizon Phase I Site Preparation of the Memorial, a fundraising total of $98.8 million, and a new fundraising goal of $120 million.

Participants include: Aretha Franklin, Samuel L. Jackson, Musiq Soulchild, Nia Long, Ice Cube, Stephanie Mills, Cedric The Entertainer, General Colin Powell, Tavis Smiley, Al Roker, and Soledad O'Brien

The celebrity participants will be featured on select Clear Channel Radio stations sharing their thoughts about the importance of Dr. King and the significance of building a national Memorial to honor his ideals of democracy, justice, hope and love.

"We are honored to have such a renowned group of personalities join forces in our campaign to honor Dr. King," said Doc Wynter, SVP, Urban Programming for Clear Channel Radio. "The support of these additional celebrities in conjunction with 36 Clear Channel stations nationwide takes us one step closer to reaching the Memorial Foundation's fundraising goals."

Listeners will be directed to the Memorial Foundation's website www.mlkradiothon.org and to (800) MLK-1386 to make a donation and learn more. All funds raised from the campaign will go towards the Memorial, which will be erected on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. All donations to the Memorial are tax deductible.
