Virgil Scott, sales
and marketing executive, dies at the age of 46
Virgil M. Scott, known for his business successes as a sales and
advertising executive, died recently at his home in Atlanta. He was 46
years old.
Born in Santiago, Chile and raised in Atlanta, Scott graduated with a
B.A. degree in Broadcast Management from Clark Atlanta University in
1983. He began work at the Pepsi Cola Company four years later.
In January of 1990 at the age of 28 , Scott became the youngest Vice
President in Pepsi's history. After four years he went on to the Miller
Brewing Company as General Manager for the Northeast and then on to
Quaker Oats where he served as Director of the South for the brands
Gatorade and Snapple.
Known for his salesmanship and the keen ability of how to identify key
business leverage points, Virgil joined Anderson Communications in late
1997. On July 1, 1998 he was named President and COO of the marketing
and advertising concern. He remained with the agency until 2005.
Scott was a two-time recipient of the Jefferson Cup from the Graduate
School of Business at the University of Virginia for excellence in
business and has been the subject of various articles in periodicals
including the Baltimore Sun , Black Enterprise Magazine, Advertising
Age , and the Atlanta Journal - Constitution.
