TV Ratings for Week of August 4 - 10
NBC takes gold, silver on Top 25 with Olympics; CBS most watched network

(August 12, 2008) The XXIV Summer Olympics delivered gold for NBC, and black viewers contributed mightily to getting the network across the finish line. The games were the first, second and fourth most watched programs for the first week of August.

"So You Think You Can Dance" stopped the Olympics from sweeping the gold, silver and bronze positions on the Top 25 -- as they did in white households' ratings. But the games may have helped draw audience for two other NBC competition shows, "American Gladiator" and "Celebrity Family Feud."

Despite the spectacle in China, CBS still took the title of most watched network of the week with 12 programs on the top 25. NBC had a much-improved finish with six shows, while Fox claimed four spots on the chart.

The total number of viewers for all top 25 shows rose by 3.2 percent over the previous week to 27.3 million.
