Robert Bush named president of new NNPA Advertising & Marketing Group

(August 12, 2008) The National Newspaper Publishers Association has announced the formation of the NNPA Advertising & Marketing Group. Effective Aug. 1, 2008, the NNPA began operation of a media buying, placement and planning group that will primarily service the African American community.

This new full service marketing firm will have the ability to effectively plan, place and develop advertising campaigns designed to reach the core demographics of the African American community through newspaper, magazine, internet, and radio outlets throughout the country.

"In order to carry out our mission of having the most effective and efficient client experience for both our advertisers and media partners, the NNPA Advertising & Marketing Group has hired Robert Bush as its President and Chief Operating Officer," said NNPA, First Vice Chairman and Publisher of the Michigan Chronicle, Karen Love.

Previously, Mr. Bush served as Vice President for the Multicultural Division at Ethnic Print Media Group (EPMG), where he was in charge of enhancing EPMG's national presence in the diverse markets, including overseeing strategic planning, advertising, agency and newspaper relations, management and market development.  "Robert brings over 10 years of experience and a strong track record of creating and implementing effective African American and ethnic marketing strategies for national markets" say's Lenora Carter Treasurer of NNPA and Publisher of the Houston Forward Times.

Prior to EPMG, Robert served as General Sales Manager for The Los Angeles Wave, the country's largest black newspaper group.  While at Ethnic Print Media, with Robert's leadership, a struggling African American Division grew more than 300% in two and a half years. He also successfully launched Ethnic Print Media's magazine, broadcast and online divisions.

"We, the Executive Committee of the NNPA, are convinced that there is no one more qualified, with a better track record, or with a deeper passion to produce partnerships that are equally beneficial to advertisers, media partners, and the African American community as a whole than Robert Bush. We are very excited about the opportunities that exist for our advertisers and member publications with Mr. Bush in charge of the NNPA's Advertising & Marketing Group" stated Chris B. Bennett, NNPA Second Vice Chair and Publisher of the Seattle Medium Group Newspapers.

In addition to being the official marketing and representative firm for 200 plus member publications, the NNPA Advertising & Marketing Group will also effectively place and maintain advertising and marketing services for online, magazine/print, and radio stations that reach ethnic markets across the country.

The National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), also known as the Black Press of America, is a 67 year-old federation of more than 200 Black newspapers in the U.S. and the Virgin Islands. Since World War II, it has also served as the industry's news service, a position that it has held without peer or competitor since the Associated Negro Press was dissolved in 1970. Today the NNPA is comprised of more than 200 Black newspapers in the U.S. and the Virgin Islands. NNPA newspapers have a combined readership of 15 million readers.
