Cable TV Ratings for Wk. of July 26 - Aug. 1
Cable TV regains black viewers as it continues to battle broadcast
re-runs (August
4, 2010) In the battle over whose re-runs are better, cable TV has
regained the interests of black viewers. The appeal of TBS' Meet The
Browns should not be underestimated, as it is still drawing two
million-plus viewers when most shows are glad to clear 800,000.
Offerings like TNT's Hawthorne, and even the much maligned Jersey Shore
on MTV, are capturing
black households with numbers that compete with broadcast TV fare.
TBS retained its most-watched title among cable network, posting 9.5
million viewers for six chart-making shows. Disney was second in
popularity, with 4.2 million tuning in five of its Top 25 shows. TNT was
third, claiming 3.2 million across four shows.
During the last week of July, 26.8 million black viewers tuned in the 25
most popular cable program, according to Nielsen. That's an increase of
17 percent over the previous week.
