Black TV Ratings for Week of July 19 - 25 ABC's
20/20 takes No.1 ranking among TV shows in black households (July 28,
2010) One of the interesting results of television's re-rum season is
the vastly different viewing habits of blacks and whites. During the
regular season, there are more similarities in tastes, especially for
the talent competition shows. But during the summer, the habits of black
households take a very distinct departure from that of white homes.
This week's rating are a good example of that difference. For the past
three weeks ABC's 20/20 Friday has been moving up the charts of favorite
black shows, and in the ratings for the third full week in July it took
the No.1 spot. The program was only ranked 19 in white homes. In fact,
there was only one show [CBS' The Mentalist] that was among the top 10
for both black and white viewers.
CBS continued to be the most popular TV network in black homes, with
10.7 million tuning in 12 of its Top 25 shows. ABC was second again with
five million for five shows. Fox was third with 3.5 million watching
four of its programs.
The total number of viewers for the Top 25 most popular shows in black
homes, according to Nielsen, was statistically unchanged at 22.8
million.
