NAMIC calls for nominations for Executive Leadership Development Program
(July 26, 2010) The National Association for Multi-ethnicity in
Communications (NAMIC) is now accepting nominations for its Executive
Leadership Development Program (ELDP), presented in partnership with the
UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management. Targeting upper middle
managers of color (directors with a minimum of two years at that level
and above), the 2010-2011 cadre will be the program's tenth. The
Executive Leadership Development Program takes place on the UCLA campus,
and is facilitated over four sessions. Spanning a seven-month timeframe,
sessions are planned for October and December, 2010, and February and
May, 2011. The nominations deadline for the Executive Leadership
Development Program is August 6, 2010.
"As NAMIC prepares for the start of ELDP Class X this fall, we are
honored to reach this significant milestone," said Kathy Johnson,
president of NAMIC. "Since its launch in 2001, ELDP has become symbolic
of our strong partnership with our member companies and those within the
industry that share our commitment to further accelerating minority
advancement at the executive level."
The Executive Leadership Development Program was created for NAMIC by
the Anderson School's Office of Executive Education Programs, renowned
for its leadership institutes focused specifically on the African
American, Latino and Asian populations. The central goal of the NAMIC
ELDP is to develop a pipeline of multi-ethnic business leaders who will
be well prepared to assume the top roles within the communications
industry. A total of 290 professionals of color have graduated from the
NAMIC ELDP to date.
Emphasizing professional growth, the program addresses the unique
challenges faced by executives of color in the communications industry,
while strengthening the business competencies that all executives must
have in order to be successful. The ELDP curriculum focuses on the
critical knowledge related to marketing, finance, business strategy,
operations management, negotiation, and maximizing multi-cultural teams.
For those seeking advanced degrees, UCLA will confer nine CEU
(Continuing Education Units) credits upon successful completion of the
Executive Leadership Development Program.
In support of NAMIC's ongoing effort to broaden the reach of its
education programs, the alumni of ELDP Class IX will sponsor tuition
fellowships for participation in one of the 2011 NAMIC Leadership
Seminars. This program targets professionals still in the comparatively
early stages of their careers. Fellowships will be awarded to
individuals from small communications industry companies that would
otherwise not have adequate budgets to support eligible Leadership
Seminar candidates.
"In this economic climate, the contribution made by the members of ELDP
Class IX is a great honor," said Johnson. "NAMIC is thrilled to extend
these fellowships to individuals working at small companies that may not
have the resources to offer participation in high-level professional
development programs such as the NAMIC Leadership Seminars."
