BlackInAmerica.com hopes to take advantage of audience for CNN special

(July 21, 2008) Which came first, the cable television special entitled "Black In America," or the Web site, BlackInAmerica.com? Dante Lee, (left) President and CEO of Diversity City Media is happy to say he got there first. Lee registered the name long before CNN planned its six-hour special which debuts tomorrow tonight.

The cable broadcast, hosted by reporter Soledad O'Brian, looks at the stereotypes and challenges faced by African-American men, women and families everyday. The special is expected to draw a large audience following CNN's growing black appeal from coverage of Barack Obama's presidential candidacy run.

Lee had the foresight to claim BlackInAmerica.com long ago, just as he did for dozens of the most popular African-American-oriented destinations including BlackNews.com, BlackHistory.com, Black Students.com and BlackPR.com. He has turned them all into high traffic Web sites with substantial advertising supprt.

BlackInAmerica.com, his latest targeted destination, was developed in partnership with another successful Internet entrepreneur, William R. Moss of HBCU Connect LLC. "The site functions like any other social network," said Lee. "but is specifically targeted to positive and open-minded African-Americans who want to see change. It encourages unity, and stimulates positive ideas, dialogue and solutions."

Developed with the idea of giving socially-conscious African-Americans their very own online community, BlackInAmerica.com allows users to post their pictures and profiles, read news and blogs, create and join groups, and -- most importantly -- meet and interact with each other.

Lee hopes of the millions that will likely be watching CNN's special, thousands will seek out the show's name on the Web to further pursue their interests. He's already benefited from the CNN broadcast; the cable channel is advertising the special on the site.
