TV Ratings for Week of June 15 - 21 Fox's
"Think You Can Dance" steps up to No.1; CBS dominates as top
network
(June 1, 2009) Summer viewing habits have taken hold, as evidenced in
the latest lineup of Top 25 most popular shows in black households. With
nothing to attract attention like the NBA Finals, broadcasters suffered
a major drop in audience. The usual suspects floated to the top of the
list, with Fox's, "So You Think You Can Dance" taking No.1 for the week.
[CBS' "NCIS" was the top show in white households.]
CBS owned the most-watched title on the Top 25 list, with 17 shows
totaling more than 14 million black viewers. Fox followed way behind
with 2.9 million for three programs, then NBC posting 2.3 million for
three shows.
The total number of viewers for the Top 25 shows in black households,
according to Nielsen, was down 48 percent from the previous week to 21
million.

Tracing the Hip-Hop Generation's Impact on Brands, Sports, & Pop Culture
By Erin O. Patten
Hip-Hop culture has had a profound impact on marketing in the past two
decades and it provided an intersection for brands, sports, and popular
culture. Erin O. Patton documents this impact in his new book, Under the
Influence—Tracing the Hip-Hop Generation's Impact on Brands, Sports, & Pop
Culture.
Adam Graves, senior vice president of Deutsch Advertising says of Under
the Influence and Patton: "If there are any marketers out there that
still think they can ignore the urban market they'd better think
again...This isn't just a book for so-called urban marketers; this
should be mandatory reading for every marketer in the country."
