Queen
Latifah to host My Black Is Beautiful Show following BET Awards on June
28th
(June 17, 2009) Queen Latifah will serve as host for the My Black Is
Beautiful show that will follow the live airing of the BET AWARDS '09 on
Sunday, June 28 at 11:00 PM/ET. The program is the latest installment in
a series of specials produced by BET and sponsored by Procter & Gamble
that carry the My Black Is Beautiful theme and concept.
"Through our 'My Black is Beautiful' program we hope to spark a national
dialogue among African American women that speaks to this historic
moment and its effect on African American beauty perceptions both here
in America and around the world," said Kisha Mitchell Williams, P&G
Multicultural Brand Manager.
My Black is Beautiful celebrates the diverse collective beauty of
African-American women and encourages Black women to define and promote
their own beauty standard. The campaign brings to life an authentic
reflection of African-American women's beauty by embracing Queen Latifah
as the host of the My Black is Beautiful Post Show.
The special will capture and recap the atmosphere, style and sexy of the
night's festivities. Joined by BET correspondents Tigger and Alesha
Renee, Queen Latifah will highlight show winners, best performances and
looks from the stars that lived it all as they stop by Procter and
Gamble's My Black Is Beautiful Lounge.
Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe and SAG-winning actress, Grammy Award
winning-singer and Hip Hop pioneer Queen Latifah has wowed us since her
early days of rapping. The world-renowned Cover Girl cosmetics
spokeswoman is set to release her highly anticipated new album titled
"Persona" which includes her recent single "Cue the Rain" on July 7.
Queen Latifah will also star in 20th Century Fox's "Ice Age 3: Dawn of
the Dinosaurs," due in theatres on July 1.
BET AWARDS '09 will be hosted by entertainment mogul Jamie Foxx, and
feature performances by Kanye West, Maxwell, Ne-Yo, Soulja Boy,

Tracing the Hip-Hop Generation's Impact on Brands, Sports, & Pop Culture
By Erin O. Patten
Hip-Hop culture has had a profound impact on marketing in the past two
decades and it provided an intersection for brands, sports, and popular
culture. Erin O. Patton documents this impact in his new book, Under the
Influence—Tracing the Hip-Hop Generation's Impact on Brands, Sports, & Pop
Culture.
Adam Graves, senior vice president of Deutsch Advertising says of Under
the Influence and Patton: "If there are any marketers out there that still
think they can ignore the urban market they'd better think again...This
isn't just a book for so-called urban marketers; this should be mandatory
reading for every marketer in the country.”
