Cable TV
Ratings for Week of June 2 - 8
'Payne,' election coverage lead black cable viewing; USA most watch
network (June
12, 2008) With NBA basketball moving to ABC for the Finals, cable viewing
in black households returned to "normal." TBS' "House of Payne" snatched
back its usual position at the top of the chart, and added third and
fourth place as well.
The final Democratic Primary on June 3rd drew big audiences to the cable
news shows. Five of the shows on the chart were devoted to election
coverage. CNN was the main beneficiary with its four shows, but for the
first time MSNBC made the top 25 with its election coverage anchored by
Keith Oberman and Chris Matthews.
The most watched cable network for the first week of June was USA, which
had seven shows on the top 25. CNN and TBS tied for second with four shows
each.
The total number of viewers watching the top 25, according to Nielsen
Media Research, was 23.6 million, a 19% drop from the previous week’s
total.
