Black TV Ratings for Week of May 31 - June 6
NBA Finals draw record-setting black audience in prime time for ABC network

(June 8, 2010) The much-anticipated and heavily marketed NBA Finals match-up between the L.A. Lakers and Boston Celtics lived up to the hype. The first four spots on the Top 25 shows of the week in black households were all NBA-related. The Sunday night Game 2 broadcast pulled 5.2 million black viewers. That was one-third of the entire audience of 15 million, and 10 percent more than viewed the same game last year.

Thanks to basketball, ABC took the title of most watched network in black households for the time ever this season, with 15.5 million tuning in 7 of its shows on the chart. CBS lost some black viewers to ABC and finished second with 10.5 million viewers for 11 programs. Fox took third place with 5.1 million watchers across 5 shows.

The total number of black viewers for the Top 25, according to Nielsen, was up a whopping 16 percent to 33.4 million over the previous week.
