Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of May 25 - 31
Cable passes broadcast by 20 million black viewers thanks to NBA Playoffs

(June 4, 2009) This year's NBA Playoffs have seen record setting viewership across the board, but especially among black fans of the game. The boost has allowed cable channels to surpass broadcast channels in black audience for their Top 25 most watched shows.

The No.1 cable program was the Sunday showdown between Lebron James' Cleveland Cavaliers and the Dwight Howard's Orlando Magic, which attracted 3.5 million black viewers and led the way for TNT earning the most watched cable network title. It had 13 million viewers for its six NBA-related shows. In second was TBS, thanks to its Tyler Perry block of programs. ESPN was third at 11.8 million for six basketball match-ups and pre-game shows.

The total number of viewers watching the Top 25 cable shows in black households was 43.3 million, or 31 percent more than the previous week.
