TV Ratings for Week of May 18 - 24 The NBA
breaks records with Playoff viewership; CBS stay top network
(May 27, 2009) Riding the popularity of its two biggest players --
Lebron James and Kobi Bryant -- the NBA Playoffs have been breaking
records for viewers this season. Black households were close to half of
all those tuning in to the Saturday match-up between the Los Angeles
Lakers and the Denver Nuggets. The game attracted more than three
million black viewers out of a total of 8.7 million watchers.
CBS didn’t suffer any loses in black popularity. The network notched
16.9 million viewers for its 14 shows on the Top 25. ABC claimed 10
million black viewers for four of its chart makers, while Fox totaled
6.5 million for four shows.
The total number of viewers watching the Top 25 most popular shows in
black households, according to Nielsen, was down by a slight two percent
to 34.5 million.
