TV One announces
launch of HD simulcast channel in fourth quarter 2008
(May
19, 2008) TV One, the entertainment and lifestyle network for African
American adults, has announced its plans to launch a 24-hour HD simulcast
channel before year end 2008. TV one went public with its plans during the
National Cable and Telecommunications Association's annual Cable Show in
New Orleans.
"High definition programming is important to our distributors and our
audience, and we have long known we would launch an HD offering, but only
after making sure our primary channel was well received and on firm
footing," said TV one President and CEO Johnathan Rodgers. "TV one's
initial success has assured us -- and we believe our distributors as well
-- that we can provide a first-rate HD channel, and we expect this
offering to be available to distributors and consumers before the end of
fourth quarter 2008."
TV One-HD will mirror the existing network's programming lineup. The
network has already begun producing its original programming in HD and has
stepped up its acquisition of HD programming. Featuring popular sitcoms,
critically acclaimed dramas, hit movies and a unique array of originals
featuring reality, relationships, lifestyle, entertainment and public
affairs, TV One's programming showcase and celebrates African American
culture.
"Our initial conversations with distributors about TV One-HD have been
very positive," said TV One Executive Vice President of Affiliate Sales
and Marketing Michelle Rice. "They seem to be anxious for high quality HD
product, and we look forward to providing an excellent product and
marketing support that will help them hold on to and better serve their
African American subscribers, who are among their most avid customers."
