Black TV Ratings for Week of April 19 - 25
CBS narrowly loses top network title to Fox for second consecutive week

(April 27, 2010) CBS had to relinquish its perennial title of most watched network in black households to Fox for the second week in a row. Fox’s success, in part, stems from the fact that its most popular shows with African Americans do not compete directly with their CBS favorites. Also, it is holding on to large audiences for American Idol on Tuesday with its new entry, Glee. Fox improved its total black audience by 31 percent for the third week of April when compared to the same week last year. In contrast, CBS lost 30 percent of its black audience for the same period.

Fox had 10.8 million viewers for eight shows of the Top 25 programs in black homes. CBS claimed 10.4 million viewers for nine of its shows. ABC was third with 7.4 million watchers for six shows.

The total number of viewers for the Top 25, as rated by The Nielsen Co., was virtually the same as the previous week at 30.8 million.
