The Tom Joyner Morning Show promotes phone app following loss of NY station

(April 26, 2012) With the announcement today that Emmis Broadcasting was providing the frequency of 98.7 to ESPN Radio beginning on Monday, April 30th, current morning show host Tom Joyner has urged his audience to take advantage of the growing mobile and online access to tune in to the Party with a Purpose for the displaced New York area listener via his popular phone app entitled Tom Joyner and online through BlackAmericaWeb.com Listen Now page. The Tom Joyner phone app has grown significantly in 2012 with almost 40% of America using smartphones. The app continuously streams the show 24 hours a day and is available on iPhone, Android and Blackberry.

On BlackAmericaWeb.com, with over 1.5 million registered users, listeners can hear the show online with a continuous stream.  About the Tom Joyner Morning Show and BlackAmericaweb.com The nation's #1 syndicated urban morning show, which airs in more than 105 markets reaching nearly 8 million listeners, has distinguished itself over the years as continuously giving back to its audience with quality programming, highly popular promotions, special events and philanthropy.

Joyner issued the following statement to his NY area listeners:

"To All the Listeners of the Tom Joyner Morning Show on KISS 98.7,

I'm grateful to Emmis and staff for giving us the platform to connect with the people of NYC, and wish them the best in their new endeavor. We are proud of our progress in NYC, our audience was growing and I believe the numbers would have continued to increase as we got closer to the November election. However, I understand the economic difficulties of operating multiple Urban radio stations in the PPM audience measurement world.

I am saddened that an important Black voice is going silent in New York City, especially during this important election year. Along with the Tom Joyner Morning Show, The Michael Baisden Show and Rev. Al Sharpton's Sunday program will also be off the air in NYC in this transition. Black radio has been and always will be an extremely important motivational force in the community.

Although social media currently gets a lot of credit and rightfully so, nothing can replace the role Black radio plays in empowering, informing and entertaining Black people. You can't believe everything you read on social media but studies do show that most people believe what they hear on black radio. That makes me feel proud and reminds me of my responsibility to be there for them each morning.

Thanks to technology, I don't have to say goodbye, because we are still here for Tri State family. They'll still be listening with the Tom Joyner phone app and online on BlackAmericaWeb.com."

Since 2004, Joyner has awarded millions in cash and prizes to contest winners and his Foundation has raised more than $60 million to help keep students in historically black colleges and universities. The Morning Show with co-hosts Sybil Wilkes, J. Anthony Brown and senior news analyst Roland Martin, also features "Inside Her Story" with Jacque Reid; political commentary from Stephanie Robinson and Jeff Johnson; entertainment reports from Kevin Frazier, as well as comedic observations from D.L. Hughley and the Celebrity Snitch Huggy Lowdown.  Joyner's website, BlackAmericaWeb.com, has more than 1.5 million registered users.
