Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of April 4 - 10
Following season finale of 'The Game,' BET remains most watched cable network

(April 7, 2011) After taking ownership last week of the top of the black households cable ratings, BET is now gearing up for life in the post-season for hit shows "The Game" and "Let's Stay Together." Both have been renewed for next season, and the network next week will announce additional scripted shows coming to the lineup.

BET continued to hold the title as the week's most watched cable network in black homes, with 6.4 million tuning in six Top 25 shows. TBS was second again, but dropped back a million-plus viewers to five million for four shows. Nickelodeon grabbed third place with 4.4 million over four shows.

Nielsen recorded 27 million viewers for the Top 25 -- a 15 percent decrease from the previous week.

New "Buying Power" report: Black consumers spend as economy grows
Details $507 billion in expenditures

African-American consumers are cautiously increasing their spending in some key product categories, even as they continue to make adjustments in a slowly growing economy. The finding comes from the 16th annual edition of "The Buying Power of Black America" report published by Target Market News..

In 2009, black households spent an estimated $507 billion in 27 product and services categories. That's an increase of 16.6% over the $435 billion spent in 2008. African-Americans" total earned income for 2009 is estimated at $836 billion...
