Black TV Ratings for Week of April 4 - 10
NCAA Championship leads CBS' takeover of TV's Top 25 in black homes

(April 12, 2011) With the finals of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship leading the way, CBS posted one of its biggest week's ever with black audiences. The network captures 15 of the Top 25 chart positions and increased its black viewership for its leading shows by 20 percent. Noteworthy among its winners was the Masters Golf Tournament, which notched two million black viewers, thanks to the appearance of Tiger Woods.

CBS was far and away the week's most watched network in black homes, with 22.7 million tuning 15 of its shows. Following at a distance was ABC with 8.3 million across five shows, and NBC's 3.6 million for three programs.

Nielsen data indicates that 38.5 million watched the Top 25 for the first week of April, a drop of seven percent from the previous week.

New "Buying Power" report: Black consumers spend as economy grows
Details $507 billion in expenditures

African-American consumers are cautiously increasing their spending in some key product categories, even as they continue to make adjustments in a slowly growing economy. The finding comes from the 16th annual edition of "The Buying Power of Black America" report published by Target Market News..

In 2009, black households spent an estimated $507 billion in 27 product and services categories. That's an increase of 16.6% over the $435 billion spent in 2008. African-Americans" total earned income for 2009 is estimated at $836 billion...
