Black Cable TV Ratings for Week of March 21 - 27
'The Game' leads BET's sweeps of top spots on the chart of cable favorites

(March 31, 2011) BET managed to build on its gains from the previous week and captured the No.1 - 4 positions on the Top 25 of favorite cable shows in black households. Added to the growing popularity of "The Game" and "Let's Stay Together" was about 1.5 million viewers for its "Rip The Runway" fashion special.

With 11 million viewers over eight shows (an additional million-plus more than the previous week), BET was the most watched cable network during the last week of March. Second place went to the Disney channel with four million watchers for four shows. USA took third with 3.6 million across four programs.

The total number of viewers for the Top 25 cables favorites, as recorded by Nielsen, was down four percent to 26.8 million.

New "Buying Power" report: Black consumers spend as economy grows
Details $507 billion in expenditures

African-American consumers are cautiously increasing their spending in some key product categories, even as they continue to make adjustments in a slowly growing economy. The finding comes from the 16th annual edition of "The Buying Power of Black America" report published by Target Market News..

In 2009, black households spent an estimated $507 billion in 27 product and services categories. That's an increase of 16.6% over the $435 billion spent in 2008. African-Americans" total earned income for 2009 is estimated at $836 billion...
