Michael A. House is named president of the
Chicago Defender
(March 17, 2008)
Media
executive Michael A. House, whose newspaper, marketing and sales expertise
spans over 40 years, will join the Chicago Defender effective March 31, as
president of the newspaper. House will be charged with overseeing the
entire operations of the historic newspaper.
The Defender's vision is to create an integrated platform that includes
Web, events marketing, and traditional print advertising. "Mr. House's
passion, knowledge and expertise in the newspaper industry is unrivaled,"
said Hiram E. Jackson, CEO of Real Times, Inc., parent company of the
Chicago Defender.
'We welcome his vision and leadership as the Chicago Defender intensifies
its goal of being the finest African American newspaper in the country, by
providing relevant stories to the African American community that began
more than a century ago," Jackson said.
House's newspaper experience includes the Call & Post Newspaper Group
where he served as president and COO. House supervised operations and a
staff of more than 50 full- and part-time employees of the Black newspaper
group that publishes weekly editions in Ohio, including Cleveland,
Columbus and Cincinnati, as well as a weekly statewide edition.
His commitment to excellence helped him garner the National Newspaper
Publishers Association's 2003-2004 Publisher of the Year Award. Prior to
the Call & Post, House served as President of the Amalgamated Publishers,
Inc. in New York. His responsibilities included the placement of national
advertising in more than 200 Black newspapers across the country.
House's additional print media responsibilities include his work with
Ebony magazine. Prior to joining the Chicago Defender, House, a native of
Cleveland, served as press secretary and spokesman for Cleveland Mayor
Frank G. Jackson.
