TV Ratings for Week of January 25 - 31 Grammy
Awards attracted more black households than in '09, but Idol declined (February
4, 2010) Music competitions topped viewing in black households for the
last week in January. The first three spots on the Top 25 favorite black
shows is the same as it was a year ago. The Grammy Awards drew 4.8
million black viewers, up 14 percent from 4.2 million in 2009. American
Idol, however, lost audience compared with last year. The Wednesday show
was again No.2 with three million black viewers, but down five percent
from last year. The Tuesday Idol stayed No.3 but dropped 16 percent from
last year's black audience to 2.7 million.
CBS regained the title of most watched network in black households, with
16.8 million tuning in ten of its shows. Fox was back to second place
with 14.6 million viewers for nine shows. ABC and NBC tied for third
with each posting 2.6 million.
The total number of viewers watching the Top 25 TV shows, according to
Nielsen, was down 16 percent from the previous week to 36.7 million.
