New York attorney general to sue Arbitron over radio-ratings system

(October 6, 2008) New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said he intends to sue Arbitron Inc. over the planned rollout of a new electronic radio-ratings system in New York, saying it may drastically reduce advertising revenue at minority radio stations.

Black leaders call on tobacco industry to end targeting with menthol cigarettes

(September 25, 2008) African American leaders in California called on the tobacco industry to stop targeting their community with the promotion of menthol cigarettes and deceptive advertising. Menthol cigarettes are not more toxic than regular cigarettes, but the minty flavor and cooling sensation makes them more enticing and easier to smoke, paving the road to nicotine addiction. Seventy percent of African American smokers prefer to smoke menthol cigarettes, compared to thirty percent of White smokers.

(September 24, 2008) Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest grocery retailer, along with Costco Wholesale Group, the fourth largest grocery chain by sales volume, are among the top grocery stores that have experienced the most significant increases in market share among consumers in 2007, according to a newly released Grocery Trends Report from The Media Audit. Nielsen reports blacks are largest ethnic segment of all TV households


(August 28, 2008) The Nielsen Company has announced that the total number of television households within the U.S. for  2008-2009 season will be 114.5 million. That's an increase of 1.5% from last year. Nielsen also estimates that the number of Persons Age 2+ in U.S. TV households will increase by 1.3% to a total of nearly 290 million.
